In an YouGov/HPE survey of 404 development and IT professionals that examined motivations and barriers to DevOps adoption, most respondents said potential cost savings was more important than speed of delivery. In fact, speed was number three, behind both cost and quality.
The top barrier to DevOps, on the other hand, was security, followed by the project management process, and then team capability and delivery strategy. However, the barriers cited varied depending on how far along the organization was in its DevOps journey.
The top 5 motivations included:
- Reduced cost of delivery
- Increased release quality
- Reduction in failed deployments
- Reduced mean time to recover from failures
The top 5 barriers included:
- Security
- Project management process
- Team capability
- Delivery strategy
- Organizational environment
